This ad came out on the internet last summer, but it finally received spotlight last night during the Super Bowl game. I’m not going to delve into the psychology of raising daughters to do things one way or another, but this piece was a great opportunity to look inward at your adult self and ask what you do “like a girl”?
Do you run like a girl?
Do you lift like a girl?
Do you swing like a girl?
Yes, you may actually do these things “like a girl” if you are one. You wake up as a girl in the morning, therefore you will kick ass like a girl throughout your day. Running, lifting, and swinging are movements our bodies can do regardless of our gender.
Anatomy isn’t going to prevent us from greatness. There are girls and women, and boys and men out there kicking ass and taking names every day – whether it’s in the weight room, the track, the pool, or the boardroom. Everyone – regardless of gender – has the opportunity to be great at whatever they want to be great at.
If somebody else says that running like a girl, or kicking like a girl, or shooting like a girl is something that you shouldn’t be doing, that’s their problem. Because if you’re still scoring, and you’re still getting to the ball on time, and you’re still being first, you’re doing it right.
So, on that note – what are you proud of being able to do?
