Running may not sound like a good theme for Motivational Monday, but hear me out.
I love working with runners because there always seems to be room for improvement with running. Whether just starting out, or having been at it for years, running is a sport that we can constantly reinvent ourselves in.
For new runners, looking down at your GPS watch and realizing you just ran 8 miles for the first time in your life is an accomplishment that is deserving of fireworks and champagne. HOW COOL is it that your body just did something you NEVER thought possible? And YOU did it? Just by putting one foot in front of the other!
For the more experienced runners, getting a PR (personal record) at a race brings a level of joy that one blog post could not possibly capture. There’s sometimes tears of joy, disbelief, and exhaustion all rolled into the same emotional burrito. PRs make you hungry for more, they often reignite a desire to keep pushing and improving.
For the runner coming back from an injury – the first pain free run is life changing. It’s like someone is handing you your life and identity back. You suddenly feel “whole” for the first time in a long time.
A lot of those are life lessons – there are going to be times you surprise yourself, feel hungry to try harder, or relieved to feel normal again.
The intersection between running and life is wide – all you need to do is find where your intersection is.
Feeling Inspired? Join us for a run tomorrow morning, 6am. SBCC.
