Ahhh, Summer is in its last throws…the days are getting shorter, it will (eventually) get a little more brisk, and school is back in session.
Summer is traditionally a hard time to keep a workout routine because of travel, vacations, nice days that you’d rather spend at the beach, etc. This is perfectly normal, you SHOULD go enjoy your summer.
We just wanted to share a few accomplishments that happened this summer because we’re pretty darn proud of all the work our cohorts have been putting in on ALL fronts. So this week we’re going to share some of the successes we’ve seen across our three primary disciplines – Private Training, Strength Classes, and Running Programs.
Today, let’s start with Private Training
LESSONS IN HITTING PEOPLE HARDER
Paul started private training back at the end of December. His sport essentially consists of “hitting people in the head as hard as you can” (paraphrased from him) – he’s a medieval recreation fighter and it’s pretty badass. He’s required to wear period specific armor, use a heavy shield, and somehow whack someone with a sword. After three years of fighting, he felt as if he hit a plateau, so after a bit of observation (you should watch some of it HERE), we decided the best approach was to work on increasing strength, then strength endurance.
Holding a shield while wearing all of that armor then trying to hit someone accurately looks exhausting. Paul’s sword skills were pretty good, he just didn’t have the power to back it up.
By the end of summer, he went from fighting defensively, to becoming more aggressive on the field. In fact, he “medaled” – that is, his peers recognized his accomplishments over the past 6 months, and publicly commended him for his work. He’s also placing better in tournaments….hitting more people in the head with a sword. Congrats Paul!!
