Yes, it’s time to start thinking about Pier to Peak…which will take place here in Santa Barbara on September 6th. You should register now, while you’re thinking about it.

Training begins on June 30th, so why are we talking about this now? Because it’s time for YOU to get a few miles under your belt. Before training starts, we would like you to be able to comfortably run a minimum of FIVE miles. Why? Because the training program is going to be an intense 9 weeks of hills, stadiums, and a LOT of time out on the course. If you’re going from zero to 100 there’s a good chance you’ll get injured. Having a base level of running fitness will reduce your chances of getting hurt, and help you have a more enjoyable experience.

Pier to peak is no small undertaking. Yes, it’s 13.1 miles, but it’s 13.1 miles STRAIGHT UP A WALL (or so it feels) – it’s more than 4,000 ft of elevation gain. When you finish, your legs will feel like they just ran a marathon. It’s hot, there’s nowhere to hide, and it sometimes feels lonely out there…so why SHOULD you even consider taking this crazy endeavor on?

IMG_36881) The views are AMAZING – it may be one of the most beautiful courses on the West Coast

2) You will be SUPER READY to run the full or half for the Santa Barbara International Marathon just 8 weeks later

3) On race day, we have an amazing support crew with water, snacks, cheers, and hilarious signs to keep you motivated

4) This course is so hard that you’ll earn an unofficial badge of badassery when you cross the finish line

5) You’ll feel like you can accomplish ANYTHING when you finish – seriously, you will think you could wrestle a bear with your bare hands you’ll feel so invincible (don’t try that, please)

P2PFiesta6) Our running crew for this event may be one of the nicest, most approachable groups of people ever…and did we mention we have Capri Suns (and sometimes margaritas) at the end of our weekend training runs?

7) At least THREE people from our group last year took on Pier to Peak at their FIRST HALF MARATHON EVER!

So, think about it. Maybe this is the year you finally tackle the beast and knock one of the legendary local races off of your bucket list? Have questions? Email us (no question is too small or large) Kristiana@AlarisFitness.com.

Cost is $225 if you’re not a Cohort and $175 if you are. We have a few new features that will bump this year’s experience above previous years, so be ready to have fun and work hard!
